Retell AI vs. Outbound System
Retell AI is a pay-per-minute platform for building voice agents: you write the prompts, set up numbers and caller ID, and manage campaigns and compliance yourself. Outbound System is a ready-to-run AI calling platform with all of that built in, at a flat monthly price.
Why Outbound System
Why Are People Switching From Retell AI to Outbound System
Ready to Call vs. Ready to Build
Retell gives your team the tools to build, test and deploy voice agents yourself, starting from templates and an API. Outbound System arrives assembled: pick a voice, approve a script, upload your leads and start calling. No prompt engineering, no batch-call setup and no developer time needed to get your first campaign live.
Flat Price vs. a Meter Running on Every Call
Retell bills $0.07 to $0.31 a minute, plus $0.10 per outbound call for branded caller ID, $0.005 per dial for batch calls and $2 a month per number. Silence and hold time are billed by the second too. Outbound System is one flat monthly price, from $1,499, with numbers, voices and dialing included.
Local Number Pool vs. One Number at a Time
Retell offers numbers at $2 a month each and a verified-number application its docs say takes 1 to 2 weeks, but we found no number pool or rotation in its docs. Outbound System gives every campaign its own pool of 50 to 200 local numbers, caps each one at 10 calls a day and registers caller ID names.
Clean Caller ID vs. Paying to Avoid Spam Labels
Retell’s own docs warn that without a verified number “your calls may be marked as Spam Likely,” and branded caller ID adds $0.10 to every outbound call. Outbound System spreads calls across your local pool at light daily volume per number, so our numbers don’t show up as spam and there is no per-call fee.
Compliance Built In vs. Off by Default
Retell’s do-not-call handling is off by default, and its docs say batch calls don’t check it. Outbound System rechecks every number against the Do Not Call list and a known-litigator list right before each dial, and never leaves voicemails, so compliance is part of the platform instead of a setting you have to find.
Each Lead’s Local Time vs. One Time Zone per Batch
Retell batch calls run on one time zone per batch, defaulting to Pacific, and a user on its community forum reported calls going out at 2:32 AM outside the set window. Outbound System schedules calls in each lead’s own local time, so nobody gets an AI phone call in the middle of the night.
Fast Replies vs. Lag on Long Calls
Retell advertises about 600 milliseconds per reply on its homepage. Outbound System’s AI replies in under 300 milliseconds and lets people interrupt naturally. On Retell’s forum, a customer spending $10,000 a month wrote that “latency complaints are through the roof, especially on long conversations.”
Support You Can Reach vs. a Ticket Queue
Retell reviewers on Trustpilot describe batch calls that stopped working with “no one here to help” and complain of “no clear support channel.” Every Outbound System plan includes a real team that reviews your calls and scripts with you, and we can run the whole campaign for you if you’d rather not.
